Use our Freegal Music service to download up to seven MP3 songs per week from Sony Music’s extensive catalog. Hundreds of thousands of songs in over 100 genres of music are available to download. All the music is free and can be kept forever (no due dates!).

I’ve never worked with Freegal Music before, how do I get started?
You’ll need your Library card number and PIN number and a computer with Internet access. Once you log in to the service, you can browse for music by genre, featured artist, or newly added. Click on the arrow to the left of the song title to listen to a preview. Download songs by clicking the “Download Now” link and then choose to “Save” the song. Select the folder or drive where you want the song saved.
How many songs can I download?
You may download up to seven songs per week. Your counter resets to zero every week on Monday morning. Your download allotment is displayed in the upper right corner of the homepage. Please note: any time you click on “Download Now,” the song is counted toward your weekly allotment, even if you decide to cancel the download.
What kind of titles are in the collection?
The Sony Music catalog includes over 500,000 from artists representing a wide range of genres, such as R&B, Jazz, Rock, Country, and Classical. Well-known names include Bruce Springstreen, the Glee cast, Sade, Billie Holiday, Johnny Cash, and Beyonce. New music is added daily!
How can I search for a song or an artist?
Use the horizontal navigation menu to browse by genre, featured artist, or newly added. Use the grid at the bottom right to browse by artist in alphabetical order. If you know the name of the album, artist, or song, try the keyword search box in the upper right-hand corner of the page. Use the “Advanced Search” feature to search by composer, genre, artist, song, or album. Please note, artists are listed alphabetically by first name, and band names that begin with “The” are found under “T.”
Do I need to install special software or a download manager on my computer?
No, since you use a Web browser to download the music, you don't need to install anything on your computer.
Is an app available?
Yes, you can download the Freegal Music app from iTunes or Google Play.
What kind of devices are compatible with the music files?
The music files can be transferred to all MP3 compatible devices, including iPods, iPads, PCs, and Macs.
Can I transfer downloaded songs into iTunes?
Absolutely! Save the downloaded files to your desktop or your music folder. Import the song into iTunes by either dragging the song into the window or importing it from the menu. The song is now in your library. The next time you synch up your iPod, iPhone, etc. the song will be in your music library.
