As part of an $11.7-million master facilities plan, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County began renovations to its Avondale Branch, located at 3566 Reading Road, in October 2013. This project is designed to improve accessibility, upgrade building infrastructure and install new library equipment.
While remaining open, Avondale has already undergone some renovation work; however, it is necessary to temporarily close the branch to complete the project. As a result, the Avondale Branch Library will be closed from Monday, May 5 to Monday, May 19 for the remaining construction work to be done. The Grand Opening of the Avondale Branch will take place on Tuesday, May 20 at 11 a.m.
Why is the Avondale Branch Library temporarily shutting down?
During this shutdown time, contractors will install carpeting, lighting, new heating, air and ventilation systems, restroom facilities, and finish installation of a new elevator. The Library also will upgrade all computers in the branch during this shut-down and install self-checkout stations. This work needs to be completed when customers are not inside the building.
Where should I go for Library services during the shutdown?
You can renew items online, by calling the Library at 369-6900 or by using the Library’s free app on your mobile device.
Holds will be sent to the Walnut Hills Branch Library, located at 2533 Kemper Lane, and may be picked up there. Walnut Hills is open the same hours as Avondale:
- Monday and Tuesday: noon to 8 p.m.
- Wednesday and Thursday: noon to 6 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sundays: Closed
