Established in 1853, the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County is the oldest public library west of the Alleghenies. We have grown from a single facility associated with the public schools to one of the largest and busiest library systems in the country. The Library system consists of the Main Library (in downtown Cincinnati) and 40 branches scattered throughout Hamilton County. The Library employs approximately 800 people in a wide range of professional, technical, clerical, and service positions.
