About the Department
In 2007, a dynamic new service model was developed for the Main Library. Under this new plan, the Popular Library was created by merging the Fiction and Films and Recordings Departments and the Atrium Collection. Designed to be a one-stop shopping experience for customers seeking the most in-demand library materials, the Popular Library offers customers centralized reference and reader’s advisory services, along with quick and convenient check out of materials.
Highlights of the collection include: fiction and international language fiction from all genres, regions, and periods; documentaries, feature, international, children’s and educational films; television shows; fiction and nonfiction audiobooks, graphic novels; fiction and nonfiction large print titles; English as a Second Language (ESL) material, and a comprehensive (jazz, popular, classical, opera, folk, etc.) collection of music CDs. Next to the department’s Reading Lounge, you’ll find a wide array of popular, new nonfiction titles on a range of subjects, including cooking, current events, travel, art, and home design.
Looking for something interesting to read? Or listen to? Or watch? The Popular Library staff can help you discover new titles or forgotten treasures in their collection. Staff are also available to answer reference questions either at the desk, by phone, or by email.
