What’s New · Stoker Awards

Horror fans take note! The Bram Stoker Awards were handed out by The Horror Writers Association (“a worldwide organization of writers and publishing professionals dedicated to promoting the interests of writers of Horror and Dark Fantasy”) last month. The Stoker Awards, which were first presented in 1988, are named in honor of Bram Stoker, author of Dracula (1897). Stokers are given “for superior achievement” in the following categories: Novel, First Novel, Short Fiction, Long Fiction, Fiction Collection, Poetry Collection, Anthology, Nonfiction, Illustrated Narrative, Screenplay, Work for Young Readers, and Other Media. Occasionally, Lifetime Achievement Stokers are also presented to those “whose entire body of work has substantially influenced Horror.” This year, Michael Moorcock, author of many works of horror and dark fantasy, received a Lifetime Achievement Stoker.
