National Library Workers Day · Valuable Contributions of Library Staff

Our Library was ranked a Top Ten American Library in the 2006 HAPLR Index, in part for its cost-effectiveness in delivering an extensive range of services, its tremendous circulation, staffing levels, size of collection, and reference service. “The prestige our Library brings to the region through its national recognition for excellence would not be possible without our excellent and talented staff,” said Executive Director Kimber L. Fender.

Each year the Public Library honors its workers with presentation of Staff Recognition awards. Recently named award winners include:

The President’s Award

Dan Donovan, Payroll Specialist in the Financial Services Department, was the recipient of The President’s Award selected by the President of the Library Board of Trustees from among all MVP (Most Valuable Performer) Award winners from the previous year. He was selected for his outstanding customer service skills, strong computer skills, and timeliness over the past 14 years in making certain that all employees were paid on time and accurately.

Rookie of the Year Award

Jae Hess, Web Developer in Information Systems, received the Rookie of the Year Award, given to an individual staff member who exhibits consistently outstanding performance and attitude in the first year of employment. Among his major projects last year were creating the Library’s first blog, the ReadQuest webpages, and the online library card application. Jae’s most complex and demanding responsibility was the design of the Veterans History Project website, that Genealogy & Local History Manager Patricia Van Skaik praised as being better than the Library of Congress’ national website.
