Flickr, the online photo sharing and hosting site, has a new member: the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County!
Many of the photographs in our Flickr page chronicle over 150 years of providing library service to Cincinnati and Hamilton County. For example, you'll find:
- Pictures of the “Old” Main Library, which opened in 1874
- Historic photographs of our Carnegie branches
- Photographs taken of the old deposit stations
- Photographs chronicling our deep tradition of serving young people
You'll also discover photos of items from our specical collections, and images demonstrating the dynamic services and resources the Library offers the community, including:
- A sample of some of extraordinary materials in the Library’s collection
- Pictures from special programs and activities
- The winning entries from our Teen Photography Contests
- And of course, lots of pictures of people using the library!
What can you do on our Flickr page? Although we certainly hope you’ll browse through the pictures, we also hope you’ll take the time to contribute your own comments, tags, or notes. And be sure to check back on the page regularly—we’re adding new pictures every week! If you want to follow our Flickr updates using RSS, look for the feed icon (

The Library is in good company! Here are some of the other organizations who are also contributing photographs to Flickr:
- The Library of Congress
- The Smithsonian
- New York Public Library
- The George Eastman House
- DC Public Library
