On Saturday, November 13, The Library will join hundreds of other libraries around the world in participating in National Gaming Day @ your library. National Gaming Day is an initiative of the American Library Association and is intended to reconnect communities through their libraries around the educational, recreational, and social value of all types of games. Gaming of all types at the library encourages young patrons to interact with a diverse group of peers, share their expertise with others (including adults), and develop new strategies for gaming and learning. Plus, it's a way for traditionally underserved groups to have fun in the library and interact with other members of the community. National Gaming Day is a great opportunity for families to get out of the house and play together in the one community institution that welcomes everyone.
Each Library location will be presenting games and activities for the entire family, including video games, board games, card games, trivia, puzzles and much more. Also, for the first time, branches will be competing against each other in online gaming tournaments. Monfort Heights will compete against TeenSpot in a Super Smash Brothers tournament and Groesbeck will compete against Harrison in a Mario Kart tournament.
