About Rick Steves
Rick Steves grew up in Edmonds, Washington, and graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in business and European history but his real education came from traveling throughout Europe. Since 1973, he has spent 120 days a year exploring new places and revisiting familiar favorites across the continent. He advocates a smart, affordable, perspective—broadening travel and encourages Americans to travel as “temporary locals.” From his Europe Through the Back Door company headquarters in Edmonds, he produces guidebooks on European travel; “Rick Steves Europe,” the most popular travel series in America on public television; a weekly national public radio show; and a weekly column syndicated by the Chicago Tribune—all to help American travelers connect much more intimately and authentically with Europe and Europeans for a fraction of what mainstream tourists pay.
