MakerSpace Grand Opening: 10 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 across from TeenSpot on the second floor of the North building

You may be wondering, what is a MakerSpace? A MakerSpace is defined loosely as “a shared workspace where people create collaboratively.” Such a space fits perfectly with our mission of connecting people with the world of ideas and information. Located on the second floor of the North (newest) building, the MakerSpace will offer an opportunity for all skill levels to learn, collaborate, and be a maker.

We’re very excited to open a MakerSpace with this level of technology in our community. While equipment use will be free, customers will need to pay for the consumable parts of their projects. Costs will vary. The MakerSpace will include:

  • Vinyl Cutting & Printing
    • Print and cut out full-color graphical vinyl signs.
  • Laser Cutting & Engraving
    • Engrave or cut on a wide variety of materials.

  • 3D Printers
    • Print your own designs or one of 1,000s of free designs available on the Internet. This station will also include digitizers that allow customers to transform real objects into printable 3D models.

    • A soundproof recording booth complete with professional microphones, monitors and headphones.
    • Multiple DSLR cameras and accessories along with monitors, green screen abilities, and a lightbox.
  • Digital Creation Stations
    • High performance with both premium and open-source software commonly used for digital creation.
  • Media Conversion Stations
    • Convert your old VHS home movies or photos into digital format to preserve them forever.
