The Library purchased its own 3.5-acre piece of property at the corner of New Haven Road and Carolina Trace at the end of 1999. Plans for the new facility reflect the significant growth in western Hamilton County. This area has experienced a 33.9% increase in population between 1982 and 1990 and it continues to experience some of the highest growth in the county. The branch will be able to provide the latest in library services and technology with convenient access and parking.
Construction of the new branch began in September 2000 and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2001.
Once the new building is complete, the Harrison Branch will quadruple in size, going from a 4,000 square foot facility to one that is 16,000 square feet . It will have a materials capacity of over 60,000 items, giving agency staff the opportunity to significantly expand their book, audiovisual, and magazine collections. The new building will have the branch system's first Teen Room, as well as a Kid's Corner and a meeting room that seats fifty people. There will be a separate reference desk and a drive-up service window to provide easy drop off and pick up of materials. The branch will have greatly increased technological capabilities, including thirty public computers with Internet access and PC Pal, an interactive CD-ROM workstation for children.
The current Harrison Branch will remain in operation until the new facility is completed.
