My Friends of the Public Library
About the age of seven I remember walking to the Price Hill Branch Library to get my first library card. After 76 years I have never let it expire. It is the most important card I have and has been my entry into worlds of total wonder and joy.
I used to roller skate to the Price Hill Branch and had to hide my skates in the bushes. And it was all free! This was very important to me as I grew up in the 1920s and 1930s.
As a student in grade school we took a: tour of the Price Hill Branch and were taught how to use the library and encyclopedias for information for our schoolwork.
Growing up during the depression and lacking the opportunity to go to college, the library has been my education. It has helped me to guide my children and grandchildren to get college degrees and make a difference in the world.
Books are my best friends; my first love and have opened my world to enjoy nature, art, music, literature and a lifetime of daily reading.
I have passed my love of books on to my children, grandchildren and even my great-grandchildren. This is my legacy to my family, my love of books and reading and it has been a blessing they also prize.
I keep a notebook and list the titles and authors of all the books I read. Being in my senior years and not as active, I can still enjoy life as long as I have my books from the Public Library.
Today I am a regular visitor to the Cheviot Branch where they order books for me that they may not have at their branch.
Our Public Library is one of the reasons I love living in Cincinnati.
Thank you “Friends of the Public Library” for giving me the opportunity to share my story of how the Cincinnati Public Library has helped make my life one of wonder, joy and fulfillment
