The library has made a big difference in my life. I was taking my son for tutoring and I was telling his tutor that I couldn’t read.
She asked me if I would like for her to work with me on my reading. I said “Yes, I would love to have your help, Patty.” We started working together in February 2004. My reading and writing have improved tremendously. Now I am at the point where I can read my mail and write letters. The first letter I wrote was to my mother.
In May Patty introduced me to tutors at the library and I started working in the Challenger Adult Reading Series. My tutors at Groesbeck library and downtown library have worked very hard to help me achieve my goal. In August I started to come to Project Learn at the YWCA too. I will need to continue to work with Patty, library staff and Project Learn and someday I will get my GED and go into nursing.
