Friends of the Public Library Hosting Eighth Annual Main Library Parking Lot Tent Sale September 7-9
<Preview Sale for Friends’ Members September 6>
Over 30,000 books will find new homes and delight new owners during the Eighth Annual Main Library Parking Lot Tent Sale, set for the weekend of September 7-9 at the Main Library, 800 Vine Street. The event, sponsored by the Friends of the Public Library, will include a Preview Night for Friends’ members on September 6 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
For those who like a little “mystery” with their book purchases, fiction and mysteries in Books by the Box will again be offered this year. “Anyone who pays $15.00 will get a whole box full of books,” said Mary Lu Aft, President of the Friends. “There are 40 to 50 hardbacks or 75 paperbacks, normally selling for anywhere from fifty cents up to three dollars each, in each box.”
A Preview Sale for members of the Friends will be held on Thursday, September 6, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. The evening gives members first choice to select from a wide variety of collectibles, including limited editions, lithographs and engravings, posters, and thousands of books for children and adults. There is no cost to attend, and nonmembers can purchase a one-year membership at the door for as little as $15.00 a year.
This will be the first sale since the Friends’ move to their new warehouse in Hartwell in early July. “Moving to a new location with twice the sorting space has given us an opportunity to select the very best for this sale,” said Anne Keller, Executive Director of the Friends.
Proceeds from all Friends’ sales benefit the Library by providing programs for children and adults, support for the summer reading club, and funds for the purchase of items for the Library’s collection. This past summer the Friends provided over $50,000.00 for the summer reading club to present hundreds of programs, and a free book for each child who read at least 25 books.
Hours for the sale are Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. For additional information, call the Friends’ Warehouse at 369-6035.
