Honoring our veterans
James R. ShawThe Main Library’s 58th Annual Veterans Day Commemoration will be held on Monday, November 12 at 10:45 a.m. in the Atrium to honor the immeasurable debt we owe our veterans. James R. Shaw, President of the Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., will share insights from his 30-year military career including service in the Vietnam War. The program will also feature WCPO-TV’s Chief Meteorologist Steve Raleigh’s presentation of “The Star Spangled Banner as You’ve Never Heard it Before,” music by the Walnut Hills High School Choir, presentation of Memorial Wreaths, lighting of the Flame of Remembrance, and Taps.
Borrowing eBooks Just Got a Lot Easier
Downloading titles from the Library's huge collection of ebooks and audiobooks is now easier than ever! Several new versions of the Overdrive Media Console app have recently been released that make it possible for you to wirelessly borrow eBooks and MP3 audiobooks anytime, anywhere.  The Overdrive Media Console app for the Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD and other Android devices is now available in the Amazon Appstore for Android. The Overdrive Media Console app for Nook HD, Nook HD+, Nook Tablet, and Nook Color has been added to the Nook Apps store. And the Overdrive Media Console for Windows 8 is available for download in the Windows Store. National Gaming Day
Mother & son playing checkersOn Saturday, November 10 from 2:00—4:00 p.m., the Library will join hundreds of other libraries around the world in participating in National Gaming Day @ your library. Each of the Library's 41 locations will be presenting games and activities for the entire family, including video games, board games, card games, trivia, puzzles and much more. Also, six branches will be hosting inter-branch online gaming tournaments. Visit the Library's website for details.
Golden Legacy: Original Art from 65 Years of Golden Books
Mouse in the  night snowWere Golden Books among your treasured childhood possessions? If so, you won’t want to miss Golden Legacy, an extensive exhibition of original illustration art from American publishing’s best loved and most consequential picture-book series, Little Golden Books.  Organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature in Abilene, Texas, this exhibit will be on view in the Main Library atrium November 7—February 21.
S & J Café Opens at the Main Library
Logo for S&J café at the Main LibraryPastry chefs Stefan Skirtz and Andrew Johnston, owners of Skirtz & Johnston Fine Pastries and Chocolates in Findlay Market, will open a similar café at the Main Library on Monday, November 5. The S & J Café will be open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Located on the mezzanine next to the Library Friends’ Shop, it will offer breakfast sandwiches, bagels, assorted scones, yogurt, muffins and danishes in the morning, as well as soups, sandwiches and salads for lunch. Fresh-baked cookies, cupcakes, bars and bread puddings, a house blend coffee created by Coffee Emporium, Churchill’s Teas, and a variety of cold drinks will also be available throughout the day.

Book Sale CartoonAs the weather turns chilly, be sure to stock up on inexpensive, gently used hardbacks, paperbacks, cookbooks, classics, children’s books, plus CDs, DVDs and more at two special sales in November. Shop wide selections of nearly new books and audiovisual items—all at low prices, while generating funds to help the Library meet growing demands for its services. Don’t miss the Anderson Township Library Association Holiday & Nearly New Sale at the Anderson Branch Library (November 8-10) and the Friends of the Public Library sale at the Pleasant Ridge Branch (November 8-10).
