Pulitzer Prize winner Kidder, best known for his inspirational classic Mountains Beyond Mountains (2003), returns with another true tale of medicine and hope. In 1994, Deo was a young Tutsi medical student in Burundi, East Africa, until ethnic massacres by the Hutu militia forced him to flee for his life. He eventually made his way to New York and began his remarkable journey from homeless refugee to medical degree recipient at Columbia University. Kidder follows Deo back to Burundi and his clinic, Village Health Works, in this moving testament to healing.
