This spooky supernatural horror tale by John Saul (Faces of Fear, 2008) arrives just in time for Halloween. After 14-year-old Sarah Crane’s mother dies from cancer and her father is sent to prison for killing a man, she is taken in by a loveless foster family. Feeling alienated, Sarah begins visiting her art teacher, Bettina Phillips, at her ancestral home called Shutters, a former prison for the criminally insane. Bettina encourages her talent for painting, but Sarah discovers she can’t stop painting scenes that recreate the prisoners’ chilling crimes.
