In Ann Arbor, Michigan, the first Monday in December is when the Christmas Cookie Club gathers at Marnie's home. There are twelve members, and each makes a baker's dozen cookies to share with the others as well as donate to charity. This year, founding member Marnie is especially concerned about her daughter Sky's pregnancy--having already lost three children, Marnie doesn't know how Sky would survive the loss of a fourth. Other members face similar challenges: marital affairs, financial woes, childlessness. Psychotherapist Pearlman's debut is an appealing and poignant homage to female friendship.
