Abandoned
In McFadyen's latest Smoky Barrett thriller (after 2008's The Darker Side), the FBI agent faces her most perplexing case yet. At an FBI colleague's wedding on California's coast, a gaunt woman clad only in a nightgown stumbles up the aisle. The woman was abducted by a man who kidnaps wives for husbands who want to get rid of them--permanently. The women are then killed and the man collects half of the couple's life insurance for "services rendered." Smoky suspects that this woman was let go for a reason--but what will it cost her to find out? A spooky page-turner--keep your lights on for this one.
