A Friend of the Family
The disintegration of a New Jersey internist's life is the focus of this striking novel from the author of Reproduction Is the Flaw of Love (2004). Pete Dizinoff has a flourishing medical practice, a wife who adores him, and a son, Alec, who's just starting college. Then Alec drops out of school and begins a romance with Laura, the 31-year-old daughter of Pete's best friend. Laura's past makes Pete nervous: as a teenager, she gave birth to a baby that ended up dead in a dumpster. He doesn't trust her, and this leads to a steadily widening rift between Pete and his friends and family. A gripping page-turner.
