The Mitten

Jim Aylesworth

A little boy plays in the snow wearing the mittens Grandmother knitted for him. Oh, no - when he returns home he has only one mitten! With hot cocoa and kindness Grandmother reassures him and says they will look for the mitten later. Meanwhile a squirrel discovers the abandoned mitten and snuggles in for a nap. Later a rabbit, fox, and bear persuade the squirrel to let them inside the warm mitten. Finally, a tiny mouse talks his way in and creates havoc as the mitten is destroyed. Detailed black-lined illustrations give a vintage quality to the story and the humorous personalities of the animals shine in this classic tale. Ages 5-6.
