Yonder Mountain String Band, the contemporary bluegrass, jam band of four, who met in 1998 at an open picking session in Colorado, established their reputation in the last eleven years by touring the country extensively, playing over 100 shows every year. Listing their major influences as the Grateful Dead and the Del McCoury Band, the freewheeling quartet straddles the fence between rock and bluegrass, and revels in the dual nature of their untraditional approach to bluegrass. The tracks on their latest CD are “just bold enough to keep it rocking without taking too far a stretch from the band’s beloved signature sound.” (Washington Examiner)
