Lynyrd Skynyrd

The story of the Southern rock arena legend Lynyrd Skynyrd begins in the early 1970s when this rebellious, raucous group rose to the top of the music charts with hits like “Free Bird” and “Sweet Home Alabama”. Tragically in October of 1977, just days after the release of their sixth album Street Survivors, a plane crash took the lives of many of the band’s members, including founder, songwriter and lead singer Ronnie Van Zandt. The crash put an end to Lynyrd Skynyrd until it reformed in 1987 with Ronnie’s youngest brother Johnny Van Zandt, who has been “filling those giant shoes with the same passionate dirt and grit in his vocals as Ronnie did all those years ago”.
