Nora's Chicks
Nora and her family have moved to the United States from Russia. The prairie is unfamiliar and with only baby brother Milo as a playmate Nora is lonely. One day Father brings home 10 chicks and 2 geese, “for eating.” Nora decides they would make wonderful pets, and Father agrees. As Nora bonds with her new pets she also becomes friends with a neighbor girl. Based on her immigrant grandmother’s life, MacLachlan has created a heartwarming picture book with authentic characters.
