Jesse James, the Northfield Raid, and the Wild West's Greatest Escape
Mark Lee Gardner

On September 7, 1876, Jesse James, his brother Frank, and members of their outlaw gang attempted a robbery on the First National Bank in Northfield, Minnesota. Cashier Joseph Lee Heywood refused to open the safe, and the ensuing shoot-out with citizens on the street left two gang members dead and the rest on the lam. Historian Gardner (To Hell on a Fast Horse, 2010) tells the hour-by-hour story of one of the most famous bank heists in American history.
