Just Because the Internet Told You, How Do You Know It's True?
Charles Seife

Information today is pushed out so rapidly, spreads so quickly, and seems to be in our faces everywhere we turn. Before a fact-checker can confirm it, the word has become fact simply because of accessibility. So how to filter truth from fantasy from outright lies is becoming a skill that everyone should master and wield like a weapon. Seife points out example after example where verification is necessary - like police using online profiles to catch pedophiles which is good but can be turned around to pedophiles using fake profiles which is bad. A wary person can be in a power position.
