Outside Shot:Big Dreams, Hard Times, and One County's Quest for Basketball Greatness
In the late 1990s, Scott County High School in central Kentucky was consistently ranked as one of the state's best high school basketball programs. After winning the state championship for a second time in 2007, going 30-0 against other Kentucky high schools, the basket suddenly seemed out of reach. The rural area was hit hard by the economic recession and the luck of the Scott County Cardinals seemed to hit the same slump. In an area where athletic success could be a young man's ticket to college and a better life, the hopes and dreams of the county rested on their hardwood floor.
