Penny and Her Marble

Kevin Henkes

Penny spies a big blue marble in her neighbor’s lawn, looks around, and decides to slip it in her pocket. At home she plays with the new treasure yet somehow wonders if she should have taken it. Penny returns the marble and later discovers her neighbor had placed it there, hoping someone would find it and enjoy it. This beginning reader expresses emotions and allows the heroine to find her own solutions to a problem. Henkes’ playful illustrations are a delight in this third book of the series, after Penny and Her Song (2012) and Penny and Her Doll (2012). Ages 5-7
