The clean crisp music of Cincinnati band Hickory Robot can only be rivaled by award winning artists Alison Krauss and Union Station or maybe the Charlie Daniels Band. Though the three men of the band deliver strong vocals, singer Lauren Schloemer could stand shoulder to shoulder with not only any female in mainstream country but in mainstream music. She can be both soulful and sassy. A woman not afraid of a little whiskey, yet so tender, whether the song is playful or melancholy, she can take listeners deeper into their own emotions. The symphony of mandolin, guitar, and fretless bass remind listeners this isn’t their grandfather’s bluegrass. If you’ve been hesitant to sink your feet into the luscious fields of bluegrass then take your first step with Hickory Robot. The band will perform at Molly Malone’s in Covington on January 31.
