The Son

Jo Nesbo

This stand-alone from Nesbo, best known for his Harry Hole series (Cockroaches, 2014), centers on Sonny Loftus (aka the Son), who’s serving a sentence at Oslo’s Staten Maximum Security Prison. When Sonny was 18, his police office father, Ab, committed suicide, leaving a note in which he admitted to having been a dirty cop. To deal with the tragedy, Sonny turned to drugs and confessed to two murders he didn't commit so corrupt prison officials would keep him supplied with heroin. When a fellow inmate reveals a secret, Sonny kicks his habit, escapes from prison, and begins to avenge his father’s death.
