Flight 232:A Story of Disaster and Survival
Journalist Laurence Gonzales marks the 25th anniversary of the fiery July 19, 1989 crash of United Airlines Flight 232, a DC-10 en route from Denver to Chicago. When one of the plane’s engines exploded over Iowa and severed the hydraulic lines that make controlled flight possible, a harrowing 44-minute descent to Sioux City ensued, ending when the plane slammed into the runway in a huge fireball. Miraculously, 184 of the 296 passengers survived. Gonzales interviews survivors and rescue workers to piece together this taut, ripped-from-the-headlines account.
