Like No Other
In LaMarche’s (Five Summers, 2013) latest, sparks fly when Hasidic Devorah and Jaxon, the son of West Indian immigrants, meet on a hospital elevator stuck between floors during a hurricane. For Devorah, who isn't allowed to talk to boys, this is a test of her obedience to her faith, family, and Hasidic community. Jaxon, who hasn't had much success with girls, believes fate has given him the chance to talk to a beautiful girl who would normally terrify him. The two arrange secret meetings and risk everything to be together. But how far can they go and how much are they willing to give up?
