In Moon’s debut, Sparrow Cooke, 14, has always had a difficult time making friends and finds solace in gathering with the birds whenever she's unhappy. She would rather stay home on the weekends reading, or watching the birds, than hang out with other kids. But Sparrow is not entirely alone. Ever since the fifth grade, the one person who understood her was the school librarian, Mrs. Wexler. She let Sparrow eat her lunch in the library office and shared her passion for books. After Mrs. Wexler is killed in a freak car accident, Sparrow’s world completely unravels. When she's found on the rooftop of the school, everyone assumes it's a suicide attempt. Suddenly, Sparrow finds herself coping with hospitals, therapy, and a mom who doesn't understand.
