For Every One

Jason Reynolds

Originally performed at the Kennedy Center for the unveiling of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and later as a tribute to Walter Dean Myers, Reynolds’ (Long Way Down, 2017) inspirational poem is a rallying cry to the dreamers of the world. He wrote the poem for kids like him, self-professed dreamers who want to be better than they are. Reynolds admits that dreams take time and involve endless struggles. He's been fighting for years to realize his own aspirations and although many of his goals have been realized, Reynolds' most important dreams still lay ahead. Many of them involve inspiring young people, especially the ones who are scared to dream or don't know how to dream.
