Digital Material · Frequently-Asked-Questions About MyLibraryDV

Due to low demand, the MyLibrary DV product has been discontinued by its publisher.

What is MyLibraryDV?

It’s a video-on-demand service featuring hundreds of hours of DVD-quality programming that can be downloaded to your computer. Once downloaded, the videos can be watched without the user being connected to the Internet.

Is there any charge for using this service?

No. All you need is your library card number and PIN.

What kind of titles are available?

Antiques Roadshow, Rick Steves’ Europe, America’s Test Kitchen, Today’s Homeowner, independent films from Film Movement, and an array of Hollywood classics. A PDF that lists all the titles is on the MyLibraryDV website.

How do I get started?

It’s easy! First, you’ll need to install the download manager on your computer (you only need to do this once and it takes 2-4 minutes.) Instructions are available online to guide you through the process. When you’re finished, a shortcut to the download manager will appear on your desktop.

Are there any system requirements?

Yes. You must have a broadband Internet connection, the latest version of your Web browser, Microsoft Windows 2000 (with SP4) or Windows XP (with SP2), Flash 9 and Windows Media 10 or higher, 1 GHz processor or greater, and 1 GB of space available on your hard drive.

How do I search for videos?

Use the “channel guide” or the genre icons (movies, documentaries, food, etc.) in the MyLibraryDV download manager. Click on the image associated with the video to access a program synopsis, run time, file size, and the “download” button.

How many videos can be checked out at one time?

Up to 10 titles.

However, movies from the “Hollywood Favorites & World Cinema” and ”Sony Pictures Entertainment” categories do not count against the basic limit of 10 titles. You can download one movie every 24 hours. After you hit the ”Play” button, you initiate a 24-hour viewing period. Once the 24 hour period expires, the movie will be deleted from your collection.

How long can I keep each title?

The loan period for most videos is seven days. However, the loan period works slightly differently for movies from the the “Hollywood Favorites & World Cinema” and ”Sony Pictures Entertainment” categories. Although those videos are available for playback for seven days, after you hit the ”Play” button, you initiate a 24-hour viewing period. Once the 24 hour period expires, the movie will be deleted from your collection.

How long does it take to download a video?

It depends on a variety of factors such as the length of the program, the connection speed, and the hardware configuration on your computer. On average, it takes about 30 minutes for a two-hour movie to download. A few minutes after downloading begins, a “Play” button will appear. At this point, you can start watching the video while it continues to download.

Can I renew videos?

No. Once the checkout period expires, you must download the title again.

How do I return the videos?

Once the viewing period ends, the video is automatically deleted from your “My Downloads” playlist and your hard drive.

Can I accumulate overdue fines?

Because the titles are automatically returned, you will never be charged overdue fees.

Can I place a hold?

MyLibrary DV videos are always available so it isn’t necessary to place holds on them.

Can I watch the videos on my Mac?

Only if your Mac has an Intel processor and Microsoft Windows 2000 (with SP4) or Windows XP (with SP2).

Can I watch the videos on a library computer?

No. You cannot download titles from MyLibraryDV on to library terminals.
