The Public Documents & Patents Department regularly offers programs for inventors, researchers, teachers, and students. Programs open to the public are announced in the Library Links newsletter and on the Government Resources section of our webpage.
A sample of our programs and services from the past year:
- The Power of Patents, an introduction to intellectual property and patent searching, offered bimonthly.
- Simulated patent experience programs for 2nd, 4th, and 6th grade classes and an invention protection and marketing program for 9th graders.
- Programs on law changes and the release of new data, including the 2000 census and changes in patent law.
- Who Wants to Be a Music Millionaire?, a 3-day panel discussion on how to make it in the music business.
- The VITA income tax preparation service for low-income and elderly taxpayers.
- Geographic Information Service (GIS), a customized mapping service that creates visual representations of spatial data.
This fall we are planning a special series of programs, the Senior Issues Series, with information on pensions, Medicare, and nursing homes. Watch for details on the Government Resources section of our website.
All of these programs are ongoing, and the department is happy to entertain requests from anyone who would like to plan a group or class activity with our department resources. Contact the department at 513/369-6971 or by e-mail to plan an activity or for program information.
