Holiday activities, performances abound at Library

This holiday season, the Library continues its tradition of offering a variety of fun, free holiday performances, and activities for the whole family. The Know Theatre of Cincinnati presents The Inventive Princess of Floralee at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in the Main Library, 800 Vine St., downtown. This original, two-person, interactive fairy tale encourages kids to “think like scientists” as they follow the Princess of Floralee on the adventure of a lifetime.

Also on display is the Cincinnati Northern Model Railroad Club Holiday Model Train. From Dec. 9–11, customers can operate a 17-by-10 foot “O” gauge train with a peninsula in the middle. It loosely resembles the Cincinnati Northern Railroad around Paulding, Ohio, in the mid-1950s. The model train operates noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, and Saturday, Dec. 10, and 1 p.m.–5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11. The train is provided courtesy of Downtown Cincinnati Inc. There also is live jazz with the Chris Comer Trio at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.

The Library Friends’ Shop has extended hours through Dec. 23 to accommodate the hectic holiday schedule. Downtown employees and residents receive 25 percent off most purchases during the Work, Shop, Save! After-Hours Sale 5 p.m.–8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6. The event features discounts on merchandise, refreshments, free gift wrapping, and a drawing.

There are several other holiday-themed programs at select branches. From Family Storytime with Santa at the Covedale Branch Monday, Dec. 12, to the Pyropus Bell Choir at the Symmes Township Branch Thursday, Dec. 15, there’s something for everyone.
