Library Socks and Gloves Drive

The Library is continuing its partnership with Strategies to End Homelessness to collect items for the homeless in the area. Donations will be accepted at all Library locations Thursday, Sept. 6-Sunday, Sept. 30.

The Library will accept the following items: new gloves, socks, winter hats, deodorant, first aid kits, hand sanitizer, lip balm, feminine hygiene products, soap bars, tissues, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and wet wipes or hand wipes.

Earlier this year, the Library reached out to Strategies to End Homelessness out of a desire to help the community, inspired by the public, a movie shot at the Main Library in 2017. The movie premiered at the Santa Barbara Film Festival Jan. 31 and will play at the Toronto International Film Festival, held Sept. 6-16, 2018. The movie, written, directed, and starring Emilio Estevez, centers on a public library, which becomes a temporary shelter for the homeless during a brutal winter cold spell. The Main Library is heavily featured throughout the film, which also stars Alec Baldwin, Christian Slater, Jenna Malone, Taylor Schilling and Gabrielle Union.

The Library is only accepting new items. Travel size toiletries are preferred. Cash or any other items cannot be accepted. For more information, call 513-369-6900.
